To convert PNG to JPG, choose your files above: each PNG is saved as a much lighter JPG, with transparent areas filled by the background color you pick. Set the quality, convert as many files as you like, and download them individually or as a ZIP. It all runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Why convert PNG to JPG
PNG is lossless, which makes it heavy. That's fine for an icon and wasteful for anything photo-like:
- Screenshots of photos, maps or web pages can weigh several megabytes each.
- Exports from editors often default to PNG, even for photos.
- Upload limits on email, forms and marketplaces reject big files.
- Compatibility. A few older systems and print services accept JPG only.
JPG trades a little precision for a lot of space. For photos, you usually can't tell the difference at a good quality setting.
How to use the converter
- Choose one or more PNG files, or drop them in on a computer. Other images your browser opens work too.
- The output is preset to JPG. You can switch to PNG or WebP if you prefer.
- Set the quality (40 to 100, default 90).
- Choose a background for transparent areas: white (default), black or a custom color.
- Download each JPG, or all of them as a ZIP.
Transparency: choosing a background
A PNG can have transparent pixels: the area around a logo, a cut-out product, soft shadows. JPG has no transparency, so the tool paints a solid color beneath the image before saving.
- White suits documents, product images and most web pages.
- Black suits dark slides and dark-themed sites.
- Custom lets you match the exact color of the place where the image will be used, so the edges blend in.
Semi-transparent edges are blended with that color, which is why matching it matters. If you need to keep transparency, convert PNG to WebP instead: it is also small and keeps the alpha channel.
What else changes
File size drops, often dramatically for photographic content. The tool shows the before and after size of every file. If a file still exceeds a limit, the image compressor can aim for a target size in KB, and the image resizer reduces pixel dimensions.
Fine detail softens slightly. JPG approximates blocks of pixels. On photos that's invisible at 85–90. On screenshots with small text or thin lines, keep quality high.
Colors are saved in sRGB, which every screen displays the same way.
Metadata is removed. PNGs can carry text chunks and EXIF, including the creating software, dates and sometimes a location. Because the image is redrawn and re-encoded, none of it is copied into the JPG.
| Content | Quality to use |
|---|---|
| Photos | 80–90 |
| Screenshots with text | 90–95 |
| Graphics with flat colors | Consider WebP or keep PNG |
Screenshots you'd rather keep to yourself
The PNGs people convert most are screenshots: a lab result from a patient portal, an insurance card, a bank confirmation, a ticket with a QR code. Smaller files are easier to send, but the screenshots still pile up in the camera roll, synced and visible to anyone who borrows the phone.
sigil. keeps them somewhere else. Images you import are encrypted on your phone with a 256-bit key that only your sign unlocks, with metadata stripped on import and on export, and there's no account or server involved. It's well suited to medical photos and ID documents. Before sending an image anywhere, the EXIF remover cleans it in the same private way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PNG to JPG?
Choose your PNG files above. The output is already set to JPG; pick a quality and, if your images have transparent parts, a background color, then download them one by one or as a ZIP.
What happens to the transparent background?
JPG can't be transparent, so those areas are filled with a solid color. White is the default; you can choose black or any custom color.
How much smaller will the JPG be?
For photos and screenshots of photos, often 70–90% smaller. For flat graphics with few colors the saving is smaller, and text edges can look soft.
Should I convert screenshots with text to JPG?
It works, but keep the quality at 85 or higher so letters stay sharp. If size isn't an issue, PNG or WebP keeps text crisper.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The browser converts the PNG to JPG on your device. Nothing is sent to any server.
